But Why Does It Cost So Much?

Our very first shipment of sleeping bags is due to arrive in about 2 weeks. It has taken over a year to get to this point so we are beyond excited for the day that we finally receive our shipment of 25+ boxes and try to figure out a way to fit them all into Kathy’s garage.

You might be wondering though – WHY DO THEY COST SO MUCH!!?? You don’t normally get to hear the reasoning behind a businesses pricing, but we would love to share ours with you so that we are all on the same page.

  • Reason 1: They cost a lot of money to make! They have to meet high safety standards by law. They have to meet flammability standards (the fabric needs to be thick but also soft – finding the right fabric was like searching for a unicorn), labeling standards, tog rating standards, mechanical standards (the snaps and zips must be safe and durable), sizing standards, chemical standards, etc.

Our sleeping bags have been lab tested to ensure they meet these standards, so you know they will be good quality. Besides being safe for your baby, another good thing about this is that the sleeping bag will last longer than your baby’s treatment. You should be able to sell your sleeping bag secondhand to another family going through the DDH journey which means $$ back for you and a $$ saving for a family who could really use a break!! Win/win!

  • Reason 2: The price includes shipping (in Australia) and sometimes shipping can cost us $20+! We also bear some of the cost of shipping international packages which almost always costs more than the $24 paid by customers! Australia – why must you be so expensive?
  • Reason 3: The price includes GST. Pesky tax!
  • Reason 4: Paypal/credit cards/Afterpay take a cut of the purchase price.
  • Reason 6: We need to make a little bit of money otherwise we won’t be able to pay Hipsleepers’ bills or buy more stock for you. We would be goners.

In summary, we are not trying to rip anyone off or get rich quick. We hope that families going through the baby DDH journey will see the benefit and value of our sleeping bags and make the investment, knowing that they are purchasing a safe, sleeping bag suited for those wide legs which can be sold secondhand down the track.

You can purchase your sleeping bag here!

If you’ve made it this far, you’re awesome.
